“But Jules, you’ll make a mistake,” Luca said.

“You shouldn’t do this,” Thorn said.

“No, fuck that. I’m not dealing with this. I’m not going to sit here, acting like what you fucks are doing is okay. I’m not going to get bullied into joining you. Especially when you associate with the woman who is trying to ruin my goddamn life!” I cried out.

I was so tired of this shit. I went towards the exit. I noticed Phoenix get up, moving towards me with his body. He had a low glance, his eyes boring into me. But, I’m sick of this. I didn’t want to be a part of this, especially since it’s very obvious that they were still fucking thee enemy, and they just saw me as a game.

I expected Phoenix to follow me, and I noticed that Thorn put his arm out, stopping Phoenix from going any further.

  “Let her go,” Thorn said.

  “But—”

“Don’t do that. she’s upset. Let her figure it out on her own. We put the carrot there, and she’ll take it sooner or later,” he said.

“As fucking if,” I told them.

I was annoyed and furious. They did all of this, waited around helplessly as I was attacked, as others were used and hurt because of me. I’m tired of this.

Maybe I was making a mistake not taking this offer. I didn’t know for sure honestly, but I definitely was furious, annoyed, and I felt frustrated with the way things were going too.

  Chapter 16

About three days had passed since the whole incident at the fall formal. I didn’t hear anything from Dane, and I presumed that this was just something that would be brushed off. But I didn’t want that to happen.

I wanted to find Dane, especially since he was the one who got hurt. Because of me. However, he seemed to be avoiding me too, which was irritating. Finally though, I noticed him alone in one of the computer labs. I waltzed in there going to where he was, and for a moment, I noticed him hesitate, and then, he relaxed.

  “Oh, hey Jules,” he said.

“Hey, so I wanted to talk to you. I feel bad for what happened,” I said to him.

I looked over at him, noticing the bandages that he had, and I could see part of his arm a cast. Shit was he even going to be able to play.

“Yeah, well it’s not like I want to get beaten up,” he said.

  “Listen, I’m really sorry that—”

“Do you know what you did Jules? This is all your fault!” he said to me, his tone of voice changing.

  “What do you—”

“If I was hurt any worse, my career as an athlete would’ve been ruined. You’re damn lucky this is just a minor break and in two weeks I’ll be healed. I did have some bruised ribs, but nothing was broken. But, if I got hurt any worse, fi the break was any deeper, I would’ve been benched for most of the season. My career would’ve been ruined, all because of the little fights you have with that bitch Tabitha,” he said to me.

Was this dick really blaming me for what happened? I wasn’t going to sit there and take this bullshit, if he thought I was going to.

“Well fuck off with that. I didn’t ask to be bullied. Not my fault that some people dislike me because my father is a fucking stick in the mud that everyone fucking hates. I don’t like him either. It’s not like I want to be here either, and I’m forced here because my mom is off in fucking la-la land with someone else and doesn’t give a rat’s ass about her daughter,” I said back.

I didn’t mean to lash out. I was super upset though. I’m just tired of this, and I can’t help but feel like I’m getting blamed for all of the bullshit that’s happening.

After a brief moment, I then saw Dane take a deep breath, looking at me for a brief moment.

“Sorry. I’m sorry for saying what I said. I know that it’s not your fault. You’re being bullied, and it was unfair of me to blame it all on you. For that, I’m very sorry,” he said.

I looked at him and realized he was being honest about that.

  “You’re forgiven,” I said.

“It is unfair of me to blame you. I’m sorry. I really, really don’t want to ruin what we have so far, what’s between us. In the past, I’ve dated other girls, and while it’s been nice, there is something…different about you. Something special,” he said to me.

“Like what? Besides the fact that I’m not the type to just sit there and take it unless I’m helpless to the cause,” is aid.

“Well that, but the truth is, you make me want to shape up a little bit. For once you…make me not want to act stupid and lose you. I definitely feel that with you,” he said.

At this point, I looked at him, realizing he wasn’t breaking eye contact with me. In truth, it was romantic, more tender and romantic than anything I’ve ever experienced. In truth, it made me feel funny.

It was a different type of funny than what I was used to. It was a good type of funny, a strange type. In a sense, I felt nervous, lie butterflies in my stomach.

“I kind of feel the same way,” I told him.

That was the honest truth. In the past, I always was focused on sex, rather than the romantic part of this.

Maybe it was because I had too much sexual experience with guys who didn’t give a rat’s shit about me, but I felt happy about this. Dane makes me feel different, and in the 17 years I’ve been alive, it was definitely a nicer feeling.

“Well, I’m glad. I want to make things right with you,” he said.

I felt like he really meant it.

“Well, if you want, we can try again. Maybe another date,” I offered.

“I’d like that. let’s shoot for that. how does this Friday work. My place,” he said.

“You mean like…your house?” I said.

“Yeah, my house. I’ll pick you up.”

I felt a sudden lurch in my stomach. This was so different. He didn’t just see me as a sexual object like others, and he wasn’t some old ass man who hired me because he was lonely.

  I think he meant it.

“Sure Dane let’s shoot for that,” I said.

As we parted ways, I felt a strange sense of happiness, but at the same time, I also had impending dread, and I couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous about how things would go from here on out, and if I made the correct choice.

I felt happy, like even if things went to shit now, it would all be okay. But I could see a glare from Luca as I walked on by with a smile on my face. I wondered why that was, and the reason being for it, but I didn’t know for sure.

However, the next day, when I met with Dane and walked around campus during our break, I noticed Phoenix, Luca, and Thorn all walking towards me. They all had looks of annoyance, and I could tell they had a few words for me.

  “Hey there,” Phoenix said.

“What do you want?” Dane said.

“Yeah, why are you guys here? Seriously, you’re always hanging about. It’s getting annoying,” I stated.

A part of me wondered if this was pure jealousy. But she could also see the smoldering glance that they all had when they looked at her.

“You’re making a mistake Jules,” Phoenix said.

“Yeah, he’s not what you think he is,” Luca admitted.

“Not the right kind of guy for you,” Thorn simply stated.

I couldn’t believe this. But then, Dane put his hand out, silencing me as he stepped forward.

“Oh yeah? If I’m such a ‘bad choice’ for Jules, why do you guys always bother us? You’re all so uppity about it, and I’m sure you’re just trying to pit me against Jules so that you can get her,” he stated.

“That’s not it at all. Jules should reconsider her choices, that’s all. We know a user when we see one,” Phoenix said.

“Yeah, and I know that he’s not all that. besides, his sister was quite the charmer, not him,” Luca said.

I then noticed Dane step forward, glaring at all of them.

“You take back what was said about my sister,” he said.

“Well, we’re not the one with a junkie si
ster you know,” Luca said.

“Yeah, imagine being related to that,” Phoenix said.

I looked at them, shaking my head.

“Guys knock it the fuck off. If you have no business with him, you should kindly piss off,” I told them.

“Gee sorry, I was just going to offer you a chance to ang out this weekend. We have another boxing match,” Phoenix said.

I shook my head. “If it’s anything like the last time, I’m going to decline,” I said.

I mean, last time they left me stranded. I could see the frustration of their faces. But then, Phoenix spoke.

“Fine, go hang out with this straightedge and his junkie sister, but don’t say we didn’t warn you,” he said.

Why were they so damn rude about this. I looked at Dane, and I noticed that he was quiet. I couldn’t believe that he didn’t say much more. But he stayed quiet.

“Sorry. I was just…I didn’t know how to really stand up for myself there. When they talk about Bailey, it kind of hurts. I always freeze up when people start mocking her,” he said.

I felt for Dane. I really did.

“You don’t have to explain yourself. Let’s just have fun this weekend. What do you want to do?” she asked.

“I was thinking movie date at my place. Sound good?”

  “Lovely.”

“Great. Fuck I gotta go to class. See you Friday,” he said.

Friday couldn’t have come fat enough, and I felt excited to spend some time with Dane. But I remembered what The Elites said. While they were total assholes and they’ve done some shitty stuff, I wondered why they were so against Dane and me spending time with him.

I wanted to believe it was jealousy, but I wasn’t sure what it was.

However, Friday came much faster than I thought. I got myself ready, feeling excitement grow through my body. Dane was inviting me over to his place. I wondered if he saw this as something new, something more, but I didn’t know completely. I mean, he seemed to care, and I liked him a lot, but there was a strange feeling of doubt.

Was it because I never got to experience normal romance for 17 years of my life, simply because I relied on sex and escorting to pay the bills? It might be, but there was also a lot that I had on my mind, and a lot that I needed to figure out.

I heard a knock at the door, and I quickly raced over there I saw him there, a grin flashing on my face as he extended his hand.

“Ready to go my dear?” he purred.

  “Born ready,” I told him.

He grasped my hand, and we soon left the apartment. He brought me over to his car, which had since gotten fixed. I strapped myself in, and I looked over at him.

“I’m glad I got my car fixed right away. I feel bad that every date we’ve been on has had some sort of problem,” he said.

“It’s okay. I mean, not like we can help it or anything,” I replied

I mean, it’s not like he was doing this on purpose or anything. He smiled towards me, starting the car and heading over to his place. It was near the campus, but also a little bit far away. I looked at the entrance, seeing the long driveway and the gate that was closed. Dane pressed a button, and the gate opened up. I watched with shock in my eyes as he smiled at me.

  “Check this out,” he said.

  “I’m surprised. Wow,” I said.

“Yeah, I mean I’m the son of a pretty influential family, so we have a nice place. My family wants me to live here too, since I am going to school and trying to get onto an athletic team at the best college in the area. I have the academics, but I’m still lacking slightly in skill,” he said.

I mean, if I had digs like this, I’d probably just never leave my damn home. When we pulled up, he parked the car, moving towards my side to open the door. I thanked him, and then, I stepped out.

The freshly manicured lawns had a nice smell to them, and they seemed to be taken care of almost all the time. I walked inside, and immediately, as the door opened up, I was hit with cathedral ceilings, and a whole lot of fancy decor.

  “Woah,” I told him.

  “You like this?” he said.

“I…I love it,” I told him.

“Yeah, this is my parent’s place. They pretty much said that I can bring anyone around that won’t cause trouble,” he said to me.

“Well, I’ll try not to,” I teased.

I looked around, noticing that the front room had a big, spacious bookcase and reading corner. But Dane moved past that, heading through the entryway over to a giant space. A big, sprawling entertainment center with plush couches appeared. I simply stood there my eyes widening at the sight of this.

  “Holy crap,” I said.

“Yeah, this is all my parent’s, but they let me do what I want for the most part,” he said.

“Is it because of your sister?” I asked.

There was a pause, and I wondered if there was something wrong with what I said. But then, he nodded.

“Yeah, they aren’t usually home anymore. They are always seeing different specialists for baily, my sister. You know how…all that happened last year, right? Well, I don’t really spend time with my family, but they also don’t want to sell the house, so they pretty much let me live here for free. I have my own room, and in a sense, it feels like my won wing. I honestly feel like there is a lot of freedom here, and I don’t really want to leave. I feel like I get to have the space I want, without all the extra bullshit,” he explained.

“I feel that,” I told him. I was a little jealous, mostly because he got to have this kind of freedom.

“But, I’m happy to spend the time with you, if hats what you’d like,” he said softly.

“I’d love that,” I told him.

He moves towards the main couch, which looks like it’s made of down feathers with how soft it looks. I sat next to him as he turned on the movie. It was some sort of action flick, but it definitely wasn’t what I was here for.

As the opening credits happened, I felt Dane move closer to me. I smiled, doing the same thing until we were practically right on top of one another. I mean, this was basically Netflix and chill, so I was here for it. He moved towards me, and soon, his lips were against mine.

The kiss was heated, full of passion and desire, and I was here for it. The two of us continued to make out for what seemed to be forever. I don’t want to stop. I mean, I thought we’d spend a little more time watching the movie, but this was what I was here for. I kissed him passionately, and soon, his tongue dipped in, mingling with mine. I groaned, and I soon accepted his tongue, moving it in tandem with my own.

The two of us continued to kiss in a heated manner, and I could feel the growing desire. His hands were against my hips, touching and teasing them slightly, and I could feel his hand getting higher and higher towards my breast.

Moved towards his leg, straddling him, feeling the heated member underneath me.

I flushed, slightly shocked for a second. I thought this was unreal, and I honestly wondered if at times this was. I mean, I’ve always just had sex when I wanted to, and I only did it because I wanted to make some cash. But right now, this was the beginning of something bigger, at least that’s what I liked to feel.

I realized that this was the first time I got to have a normal life. Things were starting to come together, and as we tore off one another’s’ clothes, kissing and touching, I felt happy. For the first time in a long time, I honestly felt…normal. There wasn’t any extra bullshit attached to it, there weren’t any strings. Instead, it was just the two of us, kissing, making out, having a wonderful time, and I didn’t want this to end. I felt happy, and as I continued to let my body react to him, I felt like this was it. This was the perfect moment, and I wasn’t going to let this go.

He touched and kissed me in ways that were different from the guys I were with. It was less selfish, but instead, much more selfless. He cared about my happiness, rather than just his orgasm.

I don’t really know what happened next. I felt like I was
running on autopilot, that it was a fever dream, but I know that we made love that night, and I had a great time.

  Chapter 17

The next morning, I noticed that I wasn’t in the den, nor was I in my own room. The sheets were soft, definitely a higher thread count than I was used to, and I noticed the velvety pillows that were there.

  “Where…am I?” I said to myself.

I then looked over to my left. There was Dane there, sprawled out and naked, sleeping soundly.

That’s when I remembered it all.

That night…we totally did have sex. I mean, I wasn’t complaining, it was a ton of fun, but we definitely did that, and as I sat there with a blush on my face, I definitely felt like I was experiencing something more. I looked over at him, and then, he leaned towards me, smiling.

  “Good morning princess,” he said.

He had really cue bedhead, I’ll give him that.

“Yeah, I had a great time last night. We should definitely do it again,” I told him.

“I mean, you just need to say the word, and I’m all yours,” he purred.

“So…do you want to make this official? I mean, if you don’t want to, I get it, I know how people can be, that they are shitty towards me, and I mean…I don’t want you getting hurt,” I admitted.

I really didn’t want him to get involved with me. After all, he probably would be found dead in a ditch the next day. But this secret rendezvous was definitely fun too, and it did add that element of fun and surprise.

“For now, let’s keep this between us. After all, there’s a lot of people who don’t like you, who would be glad to see you fail,” he said.

  I nodded.

“Yeah, you’re right about that. Tabitha’s goons and the elites would have a field day with this. They were already pretty pissed when I told them I was seeing you. Almost like they were jealous,” I said.

It was weird seeing all of them like that. I noticed it for a moment with Luca, and a part of me wondered if he lashed out and acted the way that he did because he liked me. But then, Dane smiled.

“Don’t worry about the opinions of those fucks. They don’t care about you. I do. I really like you Jules, and you’re a sweet girl. Fun as hell in bed,” he said.
